What is a reasonable fee to pay to zap someone some sats?

For example, your balance is 100 sats and you want to zap someone 21 sats.

a) 1 sat fee is ok, balance is now 78 sats

b) up to 10 sat fee, but you are charged 3 sats by your custodial provider leaving you a balance of 76 sats

c) up to 200 sat fee, but you are charged 3 sats leaving you a balance

d) always only zero. if a provider wants to charge a fee you dont send sats and your balance remains 100

All I can weigh into this as a non-bitcoiner is that as soon as it becomes cheaper to use Cash App or PayPal, it’s toast for the average normie.

Yes I agree.

Nah. PayPal reversed $800 dollars from a hacked account for a laptop I sold. If I had sold it for #Bitcoin I would still have those funds. Now I have no laptop and no funds.

In that situation 100 sats in the account I would say 1 sat

But it's simple math you know 😆😆😆

If you had 10000 sats and wanted to send 5000 sats would you be ok paying 50 sats (1%) as a fee?

You got me ! I would say nah if I was broke and yeah if I had money but average pleb I wouldn't recommend unless you can recoupe

I've paid 1% many times to mix my coins, so I have no problem paying anyone that provides a valuable onchain service.

For that use case I wouldn't mind paying ! For sure ...

Speaking of what you said any good sites for that 🤔? I'm down to one .

Give me a day and I'll get you a few good ones. Its been a few months, but they are rock solid.

Sound good I appreciate that !

I found my post on bitcointalk...

"In that case allow me to report that I have used Anonymixer and Whir successfully. I preferred Whir due to lower costs (a straight 1% across the board and cleaner, easier to use format}. I of course sent smaller amounts through before I trusted them with larger amounts.

It is important to use mempool.space to know when miners fees are lower."

So send a few sats through whir.to or anonymixer.com to prove them and then go for it!

You the man testing out now

A

I don’t understand choice c

it means no matter how many sats youre sending (1, 21, 500, 100000) you dont want to spend any more than 200 sats in fees.

if you're ok with fees, are you ok by percentage, or total amount, or some combo based on other conditions?

Percentages suck unless I’m charging them. I want a flat fee

Long term, It’s reasonable to for the RECEIVER to pay .25-.5% (25 to 50 basis points) in fees- ie the fees come out of the payment not on top of the payment.

Short term, it’s reasonable to pay up to 2% in fees.

For micro payments, higher percentages are acceptable but fees shouldn’t be more then 1 or 2 sats- with 1 sat fees being acceptable for payments as low as 1 sat, and “fee free” payments becoming accessible through liquidity provider networks where such micropayments help maintain a balanced network.

I'm curious what do you think bro ?

Im ok with...

internal (within the hub/custodian/mint)

.25% with a 1 sat minimum

external (paying invoices to another node outside this custodian/mint network/partnership)

1% with a 1 sat minimum, maximum < 100×mempool sat/vb fee rate

okay i see what you are saying structure is clear. It balances well between internal efficiency and fair external transaction costs. i like that is this something that happen or going to happen soon ? or you just asking to see where people head at ?

excuse me im just a dumb trader i ask Vic for all these questions lol 😂

its something that does happen, but isnt well expressed to users with custodial/mint accounts or their wallets.

it'd be great if we had a standardized way to express such rates and review custodians for accountability.
