A few months after switching exclusively to nostr my view of 'the bitcoin community' has shifted radically.
The ethos of twitter was so intertwined with bitcoin I couldn't tell the two apart.
I'm very thankful that I can see the difference now.

What do you mean?
I've noticed sometimes people post on nostr the same way they do on twitter and get zero traction.
The algorithm there seems to prioritize controversy and conflict.
People who are using both sites probably can't feel the difference. I'd guess they probably come here and think it's not as exciting and then go back to twitter.
Ah, okay.
I was regularly shadowbanned on Twitter for being too controversial, but I guess I was controversialing wrong.
I wasn't very adversarial, I was just too politically incorrect.
Complained about unchecked illegal Immigration and got reported for hate speech. 🙄
Yeah there's a specific type of speech that games the algorithm, but it's generally all within the window of political correctness.
Never cared to really understand it.
i left because i was tired of the constant tension of fighting with the algorithm and not actually seeing from who i wanted to see from
Yup. Nostr discussions are rarer, but much more interesting and in good faith when they do happen.
People say Twitter is where the conversation is, but when I go there, I don't see any conversations worth participating in.
But what did you mean by the ethos of Twitter vs the ethos of Bitcoin?
Twatter is where you get more response. The algo puts people together in a way that generates “conversation” with no regard to quality.
Twitter = quantity
Nostr = quality
Twitter is the places of Karens
People who use twitter fall under a very particular set of characteristics. Largely extremely opinionated people who are good at getting other peoples attention.
I also noticed that hardly anyone I know in real life has ever had a twitter account.
Bitcoin has its own attraction characteristics. Investment, soverignty, open source, freedom tech and what have you.
Lots of people I know own bitcoin and have never been on twitter.
