Yes, for "private Veräußerungsgeschäft" (private capital gains). It's 10 years for real estate and 1 year for most other things. Used to also apply to stocks.
In U.S. it depends on your income bracket. If you're dirt poor like me it's 0%
UK CGT on Bitcoin has gone up to 18/24%
No capital gains tax in Luxembourg after 6 months.
No capital gain tax, ever, in Switzerland.
But we pay the wealth tax each year on the total asset value, realized or not, everything included, real estate, car, metal, stock, fiat, art, ...
It's between 0 (below 100k), start around 1 per thousand and can top at the maximum between 5 per thousand and 3 percent! depending on the region where you are living (crazy differences per region).
I still think that it's more fair than capital gain tax, but there should really be no such tax, or at least not allow some region to go 10 times higher than others.
Ouch! Thanks for the important information, I love Switzerland.
Hope that in one day I’ll visit your beautiful country. Greetings from hearth of Europe
Belgium is definitely not 0% 🤣
You are lucky if you can get the €€€ on your bank account
