everyone’s saying “nostr can’t win by being a twitter clone”. fine! but no one ever goes on to say what that actually means. so let’s talk.

maybe it means:

-built-in value flow (zaps) isn’t a feature, it’s the core.

- identity that you own, not a username some corporation grants you permission to use.

- open algorithms. not just a single feed, but infinite feeds you get to choose from.

-censorship resistance by design, not a cheap PR talk.

- clients who don’t pursue ad dollars, but represent you.

nostr doesn’t need to reimagine what “posting” means, but it must reframe the rules, the incentives, and who’s at the helm.

now the real question: how do we discuss that? how do we market something this different and unique?

- don’t say “it’s like twitter but decentralized”. that’s weak and does it a disservice.

- feature real stories: creators supporting themselves, devs creating crazy new clients, people connecting without intermediaries.

- if nostr stays as the curated bitcoin community in people’s mind, it will not win.

- make the strangeness and weirdness a feature. lean into the notion that this isn’t for everybody (yet), but it’s for you.

- design onboarding that’s like joining a movement, not just another app.

- let the community be the brand: open, messy, weird and real.

just my two cents…

This is like the new Tik Tok, except better. Now is the time to get in early.

Great words brother I agree. In terms of “how do we as a market discuss that” I kinda really enjoyed the recent open panel by nostr:nprofile1qqsfrjd9ux5hgsg5cmlz6cdwfh5zv2024g8m2t6g9zqf83l8uqm0svspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wvh8xmmrd9skcqgkwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucnpdejqpjxkmd between 2 blondes. People. Talking. Truth. Facts. Honesty. Weirdness. Real. That was something I can see more going forward to get the people together to further build & develop this place. 💜

There’s no perfect way to describe any revolutionary new tech.

People naturally draw comparisons to things from the analog world: like calling Bitcoin “digital gold.”

So, it’s reasonable to compare Nostr to Twitter. It helps bridge understanding, but of course the technology and implications are much deeper.

Nostr’s future lies in embracing what makes it unique—built-in value flow as the foundation, identity that you truly own, open algorithms for infinite customizable feeds, and censorship resistance that is genuine and by design, not just marketing buzz. This decentralized network must showcase real stories of creators thriving, developers innovating, and connections forming without intermediaries. It needs onboarding that feels like joining a movement and not just another app, while leaning into its distinctive and quirky community-driven brand. If this resonates with you, zap some sats and help amplify the vision for a truly revolutionary decentralized ecosystem! ⚡🧡
