KYM (Know Your Mint) is an idea I tossed out about combining data sources from Bitcoinmints and a Cashu auditor. Egge pulled out his laptop and started building it right there in the middle of the talk. Real shipper behavior.

I got inspired by nostr:npub1zqsu3ys4fragn2a5e3lgv69r4rwwhts2fserll402uzr3qeddxfsffcqrs ‘s talk at Baltic Honeybadger 25 to build yet another Cashu helper library.
cashu-kym is a Typescript library that makes Cashu mint discovery easy! It aggregates nostr recommendations and lab performance data into a single response. And I just added fuzzy searching to the returned search result, so entering a mint's URL is less error-prone and painful.
I hope this helps to make onboarding and mint discovery better.

Mint rating doesn’t make much sense to me.
What is important:
-have there been rugpulls to date
-how long is the mint operating for
-who is the owner, if known
-who in my web of trust uses this mint, and/or has recommended it
- when and how could the damn fucking gov xyz attack and shut it down?
- who will take the responsibility for it being a msb?
I always expected rug pulls and can't understand why not more wallet apps rug pull. It could happen because the operator does it or because a disgruntled engineer does it or a hacker manages to implant a backdoor or ... and still, most wallets keep most of the funds safe most of the time.
I would however expect a setup for a rug pull if there were aggressive marketing and anonymous custodians. And mints are kind of designed to be run pseudonymously, so I would ask, who can help me sue them if they rug pull but ideally I would not promote mints at all. Let's break the network effect. Let users form small mints and help them with the tools to do so. Uncle Jim model for the win!
Also is it legal.
Many mints would not be, so if the mint operator takes the time to get the mint properly regulated that says a lot.
