Just a clarification: minarchism is 99% freedom and 1% slavery, at least that option doesn't work for me either

Minarchism just plants the seed of the next tyrannical empire.
small charitable monopoly provides security -> get rich -> charitable monopoly security provider becomes big & tyrannical
perhaps a competitive for-profit security provider(s) would be preferable
Competition & choice are the key. For profit or not for profit probably don't matter a whole lot. But I suspect a mutual aid or cooperative sort of arrangement might make more sense where security is concerned than in many other areas.
