I played 1 on Switch and 2 on a Gamecube emulator, they are amazing games and so far 2 is my favorite. If the save states are an issue you can treat the in-game saving system as the only option. Personally, I do that for most games, but I confess I abuse save states when there's something I consider "bullshit" lol

The dungeons in original Metroid are waaaay more intense without save state. You get "unlucky" in a weird spot and it's all over

It's not ALL over, you just go back to your last save

Originally you had save codes and could restore with gear, but had to start in initial location you start game in. That meant having to travel all the way through everything over again
