Has anyone else noticed that more and more people seem absolutely oblivious to the fact that the people around them also have an internal experience of the world?

Playing videos on a phone out loud in public spaces, walking behind cars that are backing out of parking spaces, avoiding small talk at coffee shops and grocery stores.

I wonder where it all comes from, because it seems to be generational.

Addiction, separation, intentionally warping brain function.

I suspect it's partly cultural. Like, I was in a quiet waiting room and we were all reading or speaking in hushed tones, and someone sat down in the middle and started streaming foreign music really loud on his phone.

He's probably just not used to being in a group of people enjoying silence in public.

The prevalence of this kind of thing while catching public transport has gone up I think. Yes it seems to be the younger people. There could be elements of addiction, reality avoidance too, but I think a strong emphasis on individuality and living your own reality probably has something to do with it.
