I run my node on nix-bitcoin, and am woefully ignorant how it all works. My next project is actually identifying a project I would like to see ported to a package/config module, and learn how to do it. Hopefully DATUM won't be too hard.

I tried packaging gossip a while back. Failed, but learned a bit. I confess that Claude ai was instrumental in my successful move to a flake-based home-manager setup. I learned 10x more that way than by scouring forums...
There is a massive chasm between every furry autist's understanding of Nix/nixOS and any intellectually normative person attempting to wrap their head around it. It's almost hilarious how pointless it is trying to learn it in any conventional way.
I keep meaning to look into nix-bitcoin for some of these retired rpis laying around...
An rpi4 is practically a lost cause. Might sync the chain on an external USB drive in a month.
Maybe use trustedcoin with clightning
still plenty of other use cases for the old pis, though
- home pbx over voip with asterisk
- temp/pressure monitoring for home brewing
- retro gaming
- proximity alert device
- tons of robotics projects
- music player
- automate garden watering
- add a LoRa hat and do meshtastic
- etc., etc., etc
