Code is speech, but speech can be subject to copyright which is what copyright is: the right to own specific words and to control the monetization of those words.

Not exactly, but yes. I'm on the fence about whether I think copyright or trademark should exist, but ya it can lead to monopoly which is the point of government- to establish monopolies because the government is the mafia.
