No one is truely independent.
We were all born from someone else, we all spent the first few years of our lives totally dependent on others.
We all benefit from being part of society.
An independent person wouldn't own or use anything made by another person.
Only what the earth provides.
They wouldn't use any form of money or barter, wouldn't be considered a citizen of any country etc.
Like that guy in the Amazon who was the last member of his tribe for 25 years after the government slaughtered his entire community.
That guy was actually independent, survived by trapping animals to eat and foraging wild plants.
We are a web. Each life is a node. Each action is a thread pulling on all the others.

Humans are not made to be independent, so that seems pretty logical to me. In fact it was relying on others to specialize while you specialized in your own way that brought us where we are.
Many people are afraid of independence.
