I think it was apple's image format. Should probably hit up nostr.build guys about auto converting some images. A little ffmpeg might be huge for their storage costs with almost no measurable decrease in quality, imo.
Not to mention .heic comes with a lot of metadata that i bet people are intending or would even want to share if they were aware.
