Recently engaged with a new law firm and our contract stipulates that I agree to their use of LLMs to expedite research 😬

I sure hope it saves time because these folks are charging nearly $2,000 an hour 😭

Is that terrifying to you? To consider that to it private, very confidential data will be fed into a model?

It should

no, it doesn't.

If it is a routine case, then they should already be well versed in previous rulings they would need to do research for.

If it is abnormal then the research done could be extremely helpful to find past rulings that you might use to support your position and your opponent's position.

I could also see how it could help create the logic of getting to the necessary conclusion the court should come to.

A human should absolutely be writing all the documentation though, in my opinion.

To important to leave to a possible hullicination.

That said, this does completely ignore the privacy issue.

Which again, if normal wouldn't be anything huge and would just blend in but if abnormal, well, let's pray they are judicious I'm their usage.

As long as they actually check what the LLM gives back.

Billable time is not always hours worked. I would request PoW on that rate.
