Subnostr

This is the reason I stop using Amethyst about five minutes in every time I give it another shot. What is this (randomly grayed out post button to show me this popup)? I'm constantly hit with requests for dev support, sats for some relay, or stuff like this where I'm not exactly sure what the client wants from me.

I just want to fucking zap/post notes and Amethyst so far makes it annoying to do so. People can stop telling me to use it. The UI is cluttered and the UX is awful in my experience.

Yes, I can always find ways around the interruptions to complete my task, but I get sick of being distracted like this when using the client.

I appreciate the devs and that some people like Amethyst, but telling new people from TikTok to use Amethyst instead of Damus or Primal is probably more likely to send them back to TikTik than to keep them around on Nostr.

Primal has issues, but it at least doesn't constantly annoy me while doing the one thing the client is supposed to let me easily do.

Cool. I do. Every time I use it I get some annoyance that doesn't make sense. Cool concept, cool devs, just not something I care to keep dealing with as it is.

I never get that unless I actually tap on one of the icons. I'm assuming you aren't doing that. Are you using the Play or F-Droid version? It's a nice client and worth troubleshooting a little.

I actually installed it using Obtainium. This is only one example of such popups, but it grayed the post button out at a certain point in the note. I thought it was a length limit or something like on Twitter/X, but it doesn't seem to be from the wording. It wouldn't let me post until I closed the post and repasted my comment again.

That fixed the issue in that instant, but stuff like this happens every time I use the client and it just annoys me enough that I stop using for a while. Rinse and repeat.

The image shows you adding a zap raiser to a post. It's only there because the zap raiser button has been pressed ( you can see the orange icon at the bottom). If you press it again, it disabled it. Those features get zaps to you, not to devs.

I think having to explain it as a developer highlights the point I'm trying to make with my feedback/experience regarding the UI. It often isn't clear at all what's happening in the UI. At least not as a new user. I have an experience like this every time I use the client.

Not every client will be for everyone, but I keep wanting to like Amethyst and end up getting frustrated trying to do basic things.

It has many cool features, and this is one, but it isn't cool when it's acting like a roadblock with no explanation. It could be just cool if the features made sense. Maybe an explainer the first time they are used? An intro on first launch?

The confusion mostly comes from not knowing I pressed some button to get that popup while I was typing. It happened as I was typing, and grayed the post button out like Twitter does when you hit the post limit.

This caused me to think it was somehow length related. Long pressing or condensing some of the buttons in the UI would probably help. I'm not used to having so many icons right above the buttons I'm using to type.

It makes more sense now that I understand that the action was tied to an icon press. It could help to move the buttons away from the keyboard as well, or just have a post options menu. This would also clean up the UI.

You can also see in the attached screenshot that the message isn't even visible on my device until I happen to scroll down. It just looks like I can't post the note for some reason.

Wow, yeah I've never seen that. Check in Obtainium for which version you used. I always pick the F-Droid one, but there's a Play one as well. It might make a difference.

The Amethyst Users chat is a good place to get quick help with things, also. Having that resource helps to keep small things small. Vitor is quick to respond there and has helped me a few times now.

None of this means you won't still hate it, but it won't be because of some weird bug at least. 😂

I doubt Obtainium would ever be a lower version than any other app store since it's pulling directly from the got repo. Thanks for the advice though.

Not lower, just a different release entirely.

Looks like maybe you just whacked the icon by accident, so your app release may not matter anyway.

There's not really a full guide that I've seen. Gotta just try shit and see what happens. Like this...
