I'd be down for that. It's hard to train the kid on this stuff without exposing him to all kinds of things I don't want to explain just yet.

We have an 8 year old chomping at the bit to be involved. We let him chat in cornychat with some of the folks we interact with regularly there. But there's so much bad in the world that I really don't want him unsupervised.

Same situation here. They're the ones who'll keep this running. We have to get them involved somehow, but maybe not learn about goatse for a few years still.

Ugh.

No thanks.

That's asking to get locked up or shot.

Seems to me this is only possible with dedicated relays. nostr:npub1m4ny6hjqzepn4rxknuq94c2gpqzr29ufkkw7ttcxyak7v43n6vvsajc2jl has ideas

I was wondering about that. I feel like it could be easy to do with dedicated relays but I feel like there needs to be some sort of parental oversight. I mean, the best oversight is us being active but kids have devices everywhere you turn these days.

Maybe I’m naive, but my strategy is going to be that screen time is together time. Most of the time I want to be present and talking about what my kids are seeing and doing. Make it a bonding experience. I think this may be able to mitigate many of the dangers we see from kids online.

i like this approach.

being present and in the moment makes it the most meaningful. <3

This is deffo the best way. Unsupervised screen time is detrimental in so many ways.

Need a community with a dedicated AUTH relay and a moderator that actually looks at the relay content. I read through theforest relay, day after day. Basically like moderating a forum, but with lots of different kinds of data, including videos, books, chats, etc.

You can get AI to give you hints of what to double-check, but you need a human deciding, in the end.

Certain accounts always post reasonably kid friendly stuff. Like nostr:npub1sur5gd3mrfvcd4nh8dtsdh0ztrqrnaknff0lcfcfz5pn56n8eqkqv9sm0l and nostr:npub1tlgqfynfdyup4s4m8ge8yqpkm8ukxtfflv3dcxl4mra3e83x27vqrlj5tp

If there were many more who were trustworthy it might be possible to let a kid have access to a nearly normal Nostr client, but with the only difference being password-protected search and following.

Then you just subscribe your kid to whatever accounts you want them to see only.

Having much better filtering of notes based on keyword, not just hashtag, would also be a great idea.

Just a brainstorm.
