They will figure it out eventually.
As I see it currently. Smaller localized governments will be free to experiment with different forms of political/economic control. We will all have the opporunity to vote with our feet.
If someone wants to watch socialism fail under a fiat standard and then try to recreate it under a Bitcoin standard I will enjoy watching the experiment.

No, socialism never works. You may mean to say voluntarism, associationism and similar concepts. But whenever there's compulsion, there lies the root of evil and eventual failure.
Smaller, culturally homogeneous communities (the individuals that compose it, that is) may tolerate it to further lengths before they break. Nevertheless, their true advantage over large culturally heterogeneous is their ability to change course and reach a new consensus more easily.
