As a Christian I can think of nothing worse than the state teaching the Bible. Does team red really like this idea? It’s not going to go the way that you would teach them…

The state teaching the bible will eventually lead to the state censoring or changing what the bible actually says

Can’t have it say anything that would critique our policy and approach.

Too bad more Christians dont think like you. I think it’s mostly the special toxic brand of evangelical Protestantism that we have in America.

It may only take little Johnny coming home with his teachers ideas to make them see, but it seems predictable.

💯

This conflict is how i feel about Christianity or religion in general

“There’s only one way into heaven! But also, there are countless versions of this one way”

Who *can* you trust then? Everyone interprets what they believe is “the word of God” differently. Even the formalized rituals and their importance differ across churches and sects.

Seems like a real shot in the dark even though it’s all from one source. But yeah, certainly the government version is/will be one of the wrong ones, no doubt there

Most seem to forget that the entire purpose of the separation of church and state is to protect the church from the state, and that seems to apply to both sides of the aisle.

It’s certainly one of the reasons with merit. Many historical atrocities blamed on Christians in general are actually attributable to Christianity *in the hands of the state.*

I'm against state schools in general. Home school is the way, with private schools as an option if both parents have to work.

Based take

People forget how much freedom of religion helps Christianity remain vital. Christians hold a wide range of views on the Bible, often disagreeing strongly about its interpretation and application. Who's view would be taught in schools?

💯 No one would be happy with the outcome. Imagine the fights over power to get their interpretation mandated. Imagine the difficulty for the state to monitor what was being taught to meet the criteria mandated.

Perhaps you should consider donating to The Satanic Temple. One of their primary goals is to prevent state mandated teaching of the bible in public schools.

These people that like this are very short sighted in my experience. This whole christian conservative movement seems to lack an understanding of game theory, demographics, and basic logic. I used to have many arguments with friends like this years ago. I realized it was a complete waste of energy and damaging to relationships that were more important than me convincing them where they were wrong. Most are simply repeating things that sound good to them. Very little thinking about this topics happens. Same with the left. Most people are simply NPC.
