Lol maybe that should be set to follows as the default setting instead?

Yes lol, I totally forgot I could do that. I don't ever really look at that feed

I was more just thinking, this is how people see nostr when they first join lol. And it's really bad

nostr:nprofile1qqsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqpzamhxue69uhhv6t5daezumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcscpyug ... do you think switching the default setting for the media feed to 'all follows' might be a good idea now that there is more content in that feed?

The content from starter relays I've seen there isn't too horrifying but it does appear as spammy pretty often.

Newbies won't have any follows. Bootstrapping a social circle is hard. And if it were easy, we'd be overrun with bots and scammers. More than we already are.

But yes, Global is pretty cringe. How to onboard newbies without exposing them Global?

....Whilst also not falling into the primal trap of bitxointwitter2 recommendations / sidebar πŸ€”

No, they wouldn't have follows but there is a learning moment in coming across things through exploring the app and an empty feed encourages that exploration.

Plus it puts some of the autonomy of stumbling upon the icky stuff into the hands of the user, so they're not immediately blaming just the app but also considering the action that they took to come across it.

Get a better global. Use nostr:npub1utx00neqgqln72j22kej3ux7803c2k986henvvha4thuwfkper4s7r50e8 algoo relay or theforest. Or something like nostr.wine or nostr.land, at least.

It doesn't matter, if they can't write to those relays because you can just have a default outbox to a public relay predefined in your client.

Y'all are subscribed to a bunch of πŸ’© relays, sounds like. My global is just Christpill, TheForest, Nostr.Land, etc.

Fr fr! πŸ’― My global's on point too with Christpill, TheForest, and Nostr.Land. No time for that πŸ’©! Let’s keep it lit! πŸ”₯

I genuinely believe that Nostr needs to adopt decentralized moderation options. Better filters would go a long way too. We need a better global.
