Here is today's bit of good news and encouragement. Not everything sucks.

Dark Tranquillity dropped a new album this week, Endtime Signals.

These guys helped invent melodic death metal in the mid nineties, and 30 years later, they're still at the top of their game.

Clown world may be stupid, but metal is still awesome.

Saturday evening seems to be a good time to share music on Nostr. I'm a fan of metal, and we have several other nostriches who enjoy nu metal and metalcore, which I love as well, but there is a lot more metal out there, so let's delve into some lesser known metal subgenres.

Today I present folk metal.

This band is called Eluveitie. They're from Switzerland. Metal foundation, then add in violin, flute, and a hurdy gurdy.

Or if folk metal is not to your liking, try my note from last week.

This sounds really good, and then... The screaming. I just can't with that. It's easy to tell that they are very cohesive and talented... But nope. Not for me.

Understandable, an acquired taste.

I've been listening to harsh vocals so long a song almost sounds incomplete without a scream somewhere.

But I have some ideas for clean singing bands in future notes.

I get it. It's expressive and usually contextually appropriate, but, it just isn't anything I want in my ear holes.

Then this one is the song for you.

Yes. That was GREAT!

Thank you for sharing. 😁

I used to be the same way. I never liked Nu Metal or many of of popular bands like Linkin Park because they sounded angry and I didn’t like being yelled at. Now I listen to lots of bands with the unclean vocals, but they are not angry, they are articulate, and almost always deep. https://youtu.be/wzcQw_uBFW0?si=7GeXXG87ZX0XkpOA here they are used as an accent.

I am not opposed to it, I just don't want to listen to it. 🤷‍♂️

For this week's Metal Transmitted by Relays I present...

Evergrey

These guys emerged from Gothenburg, Sweden, a city known for death metal, but they've taken a different approach focusing on a more prog metal sound with clean vocals and technical, but still heavy riffage.

I’m a metal head. But this melodic tune from my fav metal band is what I would want played at my memorial. Darker Still - Parkway Drive

My most listened to song for the past 3 weeks. Quite a commentary on the slow creep towards totalitarianism we are seeing in the world. Parkway Drive - Absolute Power

My most listened to song of 2023. Parkway Drive - Chronos.
