yes, but I have another node to route channels in lnd. I'm wanting to set up this other one to be more private.

If a start9 is on your radar, I would go with that for sure.

Neither.

Run Bitcoin-core on a minimal installation of Ubuntu. Preferably on a old gaming laptop.

Build on top of that from there.
