[Hashing] feels good, man šŸ¤™

Question is, how do you all get your significant others to put up with that quiet (imo) humming?

I guess a 1-BR apartment isn’t the ideal setting šŸ˜†

What kind of fan is on there? You might be able to get a more quiet fan, although I don't know much about bit axes. Maybe the quiet fans aren't powerful enough.

Idk man I can barely hear mine, I can't see it being that loud to bother someone šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

That’s what I thought lol but she had exceptional hearing and hangs out in the room I set it up in every day 🤣

It’s whichever came stock, but I’ll definitely look into a replacement

I put mine (gamma, 601) in the technical room in our house. No one ever goes in there beside me.

That’s what I’d do… if we had a full house lol šŸ˜‰ city livin’ certainly has its pros and cons

That’s definitely right, you can maybe clock it down a bit so it’s more quiet?

Definitely quieter fans out there. I was shocked how loud bitaxes are when running. I haven’t changed one out yet, but there are guides. Noctuq fans seem to be front runners for replacing.

Ooh that’s interesting. I’ll look into this. Do you know if we can also ā€œunderclockā€ the device and run it quieter?

I am not sure on that. I think they have a discord channel. I just found a podcast and started checking it out. I will try to link it. That’s about all the bitaxe exp I have.

I appreciate the podcast rec! Was looking for something like this

No problem. Let me know if you quiet yours down by under clocking. Kind of curious your results.

Mine is in the basement. We hardly go down there. Was thinking about putting them somewhere on display in the living room though

Makes sense! It’s not actually that loud, just a whisper/hum/purring sound usually, but sometimes gets a bit more active. Maybe next apartment it’ll be easier to run lol

Tell them to submit to ominous hum maxxing.

The Canaan Avalon Nanos are way more powerful (like 4-5x) and way quieter. I have 3 of them running on medium and I think they make a similar range of noise to the one bitaxe, if not maybe a little less. Also, we play ambient music a lot. It covers up the hum.

Got one of those beauties recently! Very quiet indeed - was gonna set it up under the desk at my office as a ā€œfoot warmerā€ and enjoy the free electricity.

My only concern with doing that, however, is privacy. I can pretend it’s not a Bitcoin miner but wouldn’t the WiFi network see mining activity? I doubt there’s a way to enable a vpn between the Avalon and the company WiFi network. Maybe doesn’t matter, but also something I want to know before I move forward lol

I’m not sure about the wifi ā€œseeingā€ the bitcoin mining activity. I feel like that shouldn’t be any issue, I think the bigger way it could be detected is from energy usage but that also shouldn’t be an issue with one machine.

Wifi dongle to hotspot phone?

That’s an idea. At least a good starting point, bc when I leave for the night it would lose connectivity šŸ¤”

just make your SO humming louder than the axe ... that's it 🧔

Bahaha I love the way you think

Only when my 1 br apt is completely silent can i just barely make out the hum. I have it well tucked away though.

Also, I have the fully enclosed case. Maybe that helps. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Is this case available on cryptocloaks? Or different BitAxe vendor?

looks like there's a 'quiet' fan upgrade as well

Put it on a piece of foam, it will reduce the sound…
