In what extreme situation would you give up the keys? Gun? Torture? Kill your family?

Honestly, this is a question I want to know your answers to

I don’t know my keys.

Interesting, do you think the criminals would believe you?

Lol. I try.

But I really don’t know it. My seeds r far away from me.

Strategy? Yes or of course?

Why?

Just curious, because I’d probably die and wouldn’t give it up no matter what

That is a great question... I am not sure, I think the better question is how can you make a setup where you cannot give them your keys but also prove to them that no matter what they do you cannot give them. For example with a geographically distributed multisig or similar setup, but how do you convince them that you really cannot get the keys easily in that moment..?

I think that’s the best security, but it depends a lot on the criminal. He probably won’t understand, and if he does, he might not believe it. Maybe if he’s smart and knows how to talk about it properly, but it’s hard to say

Yeah. Any sophistication will suffer on this until it's become very common/popular.

Hardware wallets already crossed that gap and I guess multisig is like 70% there, whereas timelocks or other covenants, not.

Agree, These questions will be answered in the future, unfortunately

It's logically impossible to convince others that you don't know something, unfortunately.

The best solution is to have a provable delay during which the unlocking of the funds from cold storage can be reversed. First, that is obviously not a 100% solution against attackers willing and able to keep their threat active against you for a *long* time, and second, it really needs covenants to not be a very inconvenient construction.

Yes, there are many variables, it would be very difficult to deal with that

No amount of money is worth your family

I don’t think it’s even a matter of money. Handing over the money gives you zero guarantee of survival, condemns future generations, and still ends up funding crime in some way

Que buena pregunta, no lo he pensado

Formulate an answer

Entregaría mis llaves con tal de salvar a mi familia aunque eso no me garantize de que no le hagan daño

Interesting, even if that means contributing to potentially more victims?

Es difícil, uno no sabe que decisión puede tomar en ese momento

It’s really difficult, it’s not a simple decision

Bitcoin self custody doesn't work unless you are absolutely anonymous.. no one should have an inkling that you hold bitcoin ..

Or you should be rich enough to have your private army 😜

Agree, You have to be extremely careful

I train for these precise scenarios and pray I never have to find out. Ideally my training and local reputation prevents anything of the sort. But if anyone threatens my family, they will be met with violence.

It is extremely important to he peaceful but not harmless. There are many ways to accomplish this.

Be prepared and use as much force as you can. In that moment, anything goes! Peaceful but not foolish, that’s the ideal

Agree with this - be prepared to fight

Always

I will give up the keys when I decide they've got the drop on me, and I have no choice. I will not let anyone get hurt (except the bad guy if I get to my tools first).

The keys they get will be to a duress wallet.

Smart, in that case, you could buy enough time to make it seem real and then escape, but there are many variables

Coldcard makes it easy to set up trick PINs for different duress situations.

Interesting, Explain more

Read the link.

I saw the link, I’ve read it, and I understand. I just wanted an explanation in your words, but it’s all good

I’m with Lopp on this one, you can’t know the level of psycho you’re dealing with. Even if you give someone all your funds how do you know they won’t seriously harm you or kill you anyway? No right answer.

Exactly, in that moment it’s important to analyze the situation in real time, try to figure out who you’re dealing with, and make a decision you won’t regret

My base case is assume the worst intentions.

I completely agree, you seem to be well-prepared
