This is going to be a super unpopular opinion…but NIP-05 doesn’t seem to be a great present or long term solution.
(And I don’t have a better one yet)

Call like you see it
This is what TBD is working on with DIDs, correct?
i’m not suggesting that. It may help. Maybe not. But the current thing feels either empty or inaccessible.
Just had a thought… NIP-05 connected to a decentralized website might be better. 🐝
If it’s a whole decentralized website that people use independently of social media, then it could be used like NIP-05 identifiers are — without the centralized aspect of the websites.
Nostr 2.0 was just a place holder name — we’ll release the full name when we launch. You can call it The Bitcoin Web for now, if you don’t like Nostr 2.0. 🐝
May work well for verifying “business accounts” if each business runs their own decentralized website.
It shouldn’t be used as the singular identifier that people trust. One idea could be that it should be combined with how followed they are from your network (how you define network can be whatever you want — maybe 1-2 degrees of separation?)
Also I agree that the NIP-05 should be shown in its entirety.
finally someone said it!
We need a new NIP and new event kind that allows users to obsolete existing private key and migrate to a new one. Once relays receive event, they should update databases to update pubkey where applicable.
NIP-05 redirection to new pubkey will just be extra confirmation.
Always thought it was something not too terrible until we find the real solution.
I think they make domain names cool again! Would be nice if was easier to implement by just adding a Cname or an A record in DNS. I agree that it’s not the best verification method but definitely a fun way to express your self. I want to see more plebs using their own domains and switching them up once in while!
