somewhere between 6 months and a year before we have a bunch of clients implementing MLS based messaging and/or NIP-17.
I'd love to see clients completely drop support for NIP-04 messages sometime in that same period.
And then another 6 months for library developers to implement the new specs.

No. I was including that. All major clients implemented in less than a year. And I think that’s conservative.
IDK, maybe for the typescript babies, but it takes a while for part time devs to migrate to these new specs and provide proper backward compat
