is there a key extension that is not a browser extension for a laptop? #asknostr
Discussion
Sorry, what do you mean key extension? Like a program to hold your private key isolated that can sign messages for #nostr applications?
yes, kind of like amber for android, but make it for desktop
I downloaded an apk for amber and sign all my nostr apps that way so is there one that is like that?
Browser extension might be the best bet because it relies on the same browser across every system to handle securely isolating the key from the web apps. It doesn't have to ask the system to make a connection between two apps with special security rules on storage access etc.
For desktop apps it would be hard to program for how many different ways people can have their system set up compared to a bunch of similar web browsers or Android phones.
Noted.
Follow up thought: I do believe it would be a good idea for nostr clients and signers to let people copy and paste data between them in the form of text strings, with no system-level connection between the apps other than the system's ability to copy and paste.
People don't run with my ideas very often though
Maybe someone will be inspired this time
I’m working on one! It’s like the Alby chrome extension, but it’s a desktop app. Very early stage. There aren’t any supported desktop apps that can request event signings yet, but I’m working with nostr:npub1ygzj9skr9val9yqxkf67yf9jshtyhvvl0x76jp5er09nsc0p3j6qr260k2 who is building a desktop app that will be compatible. I’m also planning on building a chrome extension so it will work on the web as well.
Oh, fascinating!!! I will look at this when I wake up!!!
