What are the wooden towers?

hand made Indian heavy clubs.

😛

Did any particular books motivate this lifestyle shift? Walden? Death of Christian culture?

it started when i was young, but a funny and significant moment happened standing outside a movie theater back when StarWars 1 was in theaters. The poster had the adobe structures of Tatooine and bits of modern technology on the outside of them. As i was looking at it, i had a very strong sense that a merger of old ways and new technology was the future. Little events like this have happened over the years leading me in this direction.

Impressive. I didn’t have that kind of realization until a couple years ago. I’m interested in the oldest technology (agriculture, hand tools, human scale architecture, etc.) and the newest tech like btc, encryption, all the freedom tech. Everything in between seems very boring to me…perhaps even harmful.

i could not agree more!

i’ve started using the phrase Modsteader. The merger of the old and the new.

Using small scale new tech to smooth the sticking points of old ways of living. Its kind of an amazing time to be alive.

Unfortunately, though I’m very interested now, my technical literacy is super low. It was not impressed upon me when I was young. So I’m trying my best to gain some technical skills I should have had long ago

imo, is the best time to be exposed to it. The availability of info is higher now than ever before. youre right on time. 🙂

It is boring, thats for sure.

I try to do everything I can manually now. Take a bicycle when I can get there in a reasonable time instead of the car. Use hand tools like a hand saw over a chainsaw, things like that. First, they'll never not work, they're simpler and less prone to failure, and they're cheaper, but more importantly, if you make the conscious habit of doing as much in your day to day life the manual way as you can instead of seeking comfort and ease, you'll be physically healthier and also I think mentally healthier, because seeking comfort as a paramount goal to me is itself a major instigator of mental unwellness. I don't think it's any coincidence that everyone drives everywhere (and all cars are air conditioned) and is fat at the same time.
