At first it seems weird, Americano is just a long coffee made with a rich, concentrate espresso dilute with water 😅 but at the end the flavors are different if it's made the right way.
Espresso use a special blend (more rich in oils) with fine grinding, it use high pressure and more heat to extract all the flavors of the coffee in few seconds.
Normal coffee, also called drip coffee is made with all kind of blend with medium grinding. It use only hot water, a filter and liquid drip by gravity, It takes several minutes for the coffee to brew in the hot water.
Now this is the kind of explanation I needed haha.
So I can imagine that these giant coffeemachines at some workplaces or stations get it all wrong when it comes to espresso/ristretto/americano/coffee
Yes most of these automatic coffee machines use only 1 type of coffee to make all sorts of beverages so the taste is always the same.
Plus, if you see the inside of these machines, you'll never use them again 😅 some are really dirty.
I kinda wish I didn’t know that last part 😅 however, they seem to clean the one at my job on a regular basis
