Email has devolved into a centralized good old boys club. If you host your own good luck with reliable delivery to the big providers.

That's exactly what I'm thinking ๐Ÿ˜‰

Email: A peer-to-peer electronic message system for text and small to mid sized files.

I'd use it.

You canโ€™t have that. Big boys club issues aside with spam rankings there is no way to have encrypted and private e-mail. The SMTP protocol relies on message headers contained within the message.

The body might be encrypted but subject, sender, recipient, etc will be visible plain text to both MTAs handling your message delivery.

What Protonmail does is just encrypting the mailbox storage.

Email is a pain to manage self hosted. Spam and deliverability issues. tuta.com has encryption when both users have an account with them... But its not self hosted and in the end you will email 99.999999% of gmail users, so the encryption will not be used anyway...
