Thanks!

I will check out what they are up to. Thanks!

There are a few telegram groups for meetup organizers, if you DM me your telegram handle i can try to get you added to them.

I just hosted the 22nd Western Mass Bitcoin Meetup and here are some things I've learned.

1. Most importantly is consistency. Pick a frequency (most are monthly) and stick to it.

2. Meet your members where they are at in terms of their Bitcoin knowledge. If you are speaking to a group try to answer questions or make points that are technically correct but can be simple enough for new people to understand.

3. Meetup dot com sucks, but it seems to be where almost all the Bitcoin meetups are listed. But definitely check out nostr:npub1ve8qwrlztemdmnh62jffcr0y9m9dpqgqjdg8ufx7gc3qw5wdk74qyv9ka6 for finding local bitcoiners.

4. Be Bitcoin only, but don't be toxic. There is enough toxicity online and very few will come back or continue listening to you about Bitcoin if you aren't polite. It's possible to be firm without being toxic.

Good luck!

Thanks!

Do they hold regular meetups?

Bitcoin Charlotte and HODLween

I will look them up.

Don’t host it at the office space! Choose the bar or some quiet place that isn’t attractive to spooks and don’t survive on you.

Solid advice.

I like the no photos rule.

Yeah what do they call it, Chatum House or something?

Yeah another good rule-

Under the Chatham House Rule, anyone who comes to a meeting is free to use information from the discussion, but is not allowed to reveal who made any particular comment.

Check this out to find people that have lots of experience: https://einundzwanzig.space/meetups/

- no photos

- no investment / price talk

- make sure to orange pill the venue

Setting rules sounds most important and groups that last most likely develop trust in the rules

Is there like a bitcoin meetup resource page?

No, but for some reason I have a negative assumption about it. I am really looking for documents and guidance on decorum, lessons learned, first year syllabus, presentations, membership etc.

I dont know of one, but hopefully either Corey or Liz can help when they log on

My advice is don't over think it. The biggest drawcard & reason for attending is meeting & talking to other Bitcoiner's.

I've found mid week after work hours seems most preferable to people.

You only need 1 other person to have a meet-up. Don't stress about finding new members, they will find you.

We have ours in a local public park & I grill up some meat on a portable charcoal BBQ.

I like that, keep it casual.

Each month some will come with questions that have been nagging them & the group answers them as best they can.

We have a place nearby that we could hire to run presentations but we've never felt like we needed to.

We tried having it in a pub but we seem to enjoy the casual low cost approach of a BBQ with BYO drinks & snacks.

The key thing is to get started or you'll just find reasons to delay.

The touch grass model!

+1

Good points here. Ill add that having a scheduled date is good, but its even better to start with a few people you know and work with their schedule. Its no fun having no one show up but if you plan an event with some friends and invite people to that its less pressure on you. Ive done presentations and more formal stuff but that isnt required.

If you dont have the place to yourself, make sure you introduce yourself to everyone and make sure they know whos there for the meetup and who isnt.

Be polite but firm about the scope, topic, and what kind of things you dont want shilled in your space. Freedom of speech is real but all that does is keep you out of jail. You have the right to shut people (scammers) up. In fact, its your responsibility newbs dont get harmed at one of your events.

Chatham House Rules. No photos. Explicitly make clear it's Bitcoin Only in promos but if shitcoiners turn up try not to publicly shame them. That said, neutralise shitcoin chat efficiently and politely as soon as it manifests. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatham_House_Rule

https://satlantis.io along with simplex chat (don't encourage telegram)
