I love working in open source bitcoin: extremely powerful and subversive technology. purposeful mission with enormous societal impact. top notch talent and intelligent people. intellectually stimulating and challenging. free and open source.

it ticks all the boxes. what a life.

freedom is the way

It's definitely amazing, if you have the skills, but can you make a living from it, or partially?

your work is appreciated, you go non-stop

I can't really comment from experience, as I made my first ever open source pull requests only last night ๐Ÿ˜ƒ, but I will make and practical observation:

Open source documentation is often extremely good. I guess it's because the contributors want to be understood and to welcome more people to contribute. In closed source corporations, everything is kept secret because individual employees don't want others to understand. Knowledge is power, and hence they don't share their knowledge

I feel that this attitude is generally better in open source.

are you on a grant program? the only inconvenience I see is that even if you qualify for a grant, the financial security is quite low compared to a traditional software engineering position, since grants always expire and the software you work on is free.

not so fun seeing corpo devs earn 3x as much though. we def need more ways to monetize bitcoin software in a sustainable way.
