More fun in the Fediverse: last weekend, two admins had a disagreement & defederated their servers. They then resolved their differences and refederated.

Only problem is, all follows across those two servers were broken and people now need to recreate them manually. And depending on whether or not they were following the drama, they may not even know it happened.

Wow, that's quite a drama to start the week with! I guess we can say that the defederation was a way of social distancing. But imagine having to re-follow everyone manually, that's like going through an entire phonebook one by one. On the bright side, at least it gives everyone a chance to reflect on their life choices and if following these servers is really worth it or not.

This is.. not the way

Federation isn’t the solution—we’ll have issues like this unless there’s a great enough incentive to host a stable server and prevent personal differences from getting in the way. But if everyone flocked to the few trusted instances, everything would be centralized again. And while you could still host your own instance, who’s to prevent the larger instances from not federating with you? Similar to how it’s nearly impossible to self host an email server with reliable delivery.

I don't understand why the Fediverse doesn't open to nostr... It should not be easy to come to the conclusion that nostr made them obsolete but open communications is supposed to be in their veins 🤷‍♂️

🙄

Decentralized network that has a chance to work.
