Did you know in US the government can take your property away at any point for public good reasons?

All they need to do is provide you with “just” compensation which usually means the lowest amount possible unless you get an attorney involved.

It’s called eminent domain and it happens quite often.

It was used to reclaim land to build that ugly-ass border wall that didn’t work.

Fake news. That wall was spectacular. Best border wall in history.

On a similar note, I recently learned about "civil asset forfeiture" and it's insane:

Yeps that’s how police departments fund themselves 😂

It’s nuts.

The land of the free 🫡

1. Not only federal, but also state, county, and municipal governments have the power of eminent domain.

2. Eminent domain was initially used to take private land for public use (e.g., roads, schools). In recent years eminent domain use has expanded to take private land "for public purpose" (e.g. to sell to developer to revitalize a downtown district).

3. There's plenty of case law on the latter. Google "Kelo v. City of New London".

I’ve seen the development cases. Kinda crazy but it happens.

Happened to a family member of mine

Land is a shitcoin. Sorry to say it, but it's true.

Everything government has their hands on is a shitcoin unfortunately. Including land, the house you “own”, etc…

Accurate. Bitcoin is something that I truly own.

I also own my skills that earn me a living.

Important to note.

And if your property is cash they can just use civil forfeiture to take it on the spot

Pretty much any government can give itself these power under “emergency”

You already don't own anything and you're happy...

My hometown used it to take over section 8 housing to have a developer come in and build a strip mall. All the housing was demolished and the developer backed out. Now it’s just a giant field in the middle of town.
