I consider myself a moderate to hardcore environmentalist when it comes to carbon emissions and I firmly believe that if you are against nuclear energy you need to get your head checked. It’s the only viable bridge off of fossil fuels.

#Renewables suck. There is no need for them besides virtue signaling and money wasting.

And no... #Mining won't magically fix them or make them preferred in a non fiat world.

(Hydro power is the exception obviously)

Wind and solar is the only way to decentralise energy generation.

It is a meme? whats in the last pic?

also i don't understand . and ,

someone can explain me?

Its 4 million days

Nuclear ☢️

And what is the half-life in years of the waste it produces?

Irrelevant. Nuclear water harms far fewer people than fossil fuel emissions despite its long half life. https://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/2013_kharecha_02/

Waste* smh

My kingdom for an ‘edit’ button 🙄

Definitely not irrelevant. There are trade offs... good energy density for sure but you deal with storing radioactive waste. Your own source discusses that.... it's a necessary step to deal with a much worse climate condition.

"We conclude that nuclear energy — despite posing several challenges, as do all energy sources (ref. 7) — needs to be retained and significantly expanded in order to avoid or minimize the devastating impacts of unabated climate change and air pollution caused by fossil fuel burning."

I think our statements agree. The challenges of dealing with nuclear waste safely pale in comparison to the externalities of burning fossil fuels. Purely from a damage minimization standpoint,

If you have a minute I recommend an old memo from Admiral Rickover recently coming up at HN: https://whatisnuclear.com/rickover.html The problems he describes could be seen live in 2022: France with its huge fleet of nuclear reactors had to shut down so many of them (no cooling water in the summer and other reasons) that Germany became a net exporter of electrity to France. The opposite was to be expected...

From wind, solar & batteries: Forever! 💪

Nuclear is the way. The suppression of nuclear plants is a great example of regulatory apparatus capture by the energy incumbents.

That plus the outsize influence of the pearl-clutching NIMBYs

... the way to desaster for sure. Nobody is really suppressing NPs they just shoot you ripe to beg for it, pay for it, taking all the liabilities for it.

"As gratitude" they take all of the profit and control and none of the risks.

It is still working this "smart" racketeering with the help of propaganda.

Look up the numbers of total financial support for NE. It is significant higher than for working technologies for a reason ...

Anti-matter or gtfo.

Now that's thinking outside the box!

Corruption deployed via legislation by the State prevents the logical solution that would deliver abundance.

Also, what's the global supply of these expessed in if-everyone-lived-the-American-way years?

Unlimited - there is no shortage of energy

Interesting, infinite mass on a limited size planet, so we live in a blackhole than?

Unlimited by our sense of scale

Do you have actual numbers? This sounds rather new-age.

The Deep Hot Biosphere: The Myth of Fossil Fuels https://a.co/d/aZZRUeR

Saifedean talks about the scarcity of energy in his book Principle Of Economics:

https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-bitcoin-standard-podcast/id1403202032?i=1000618463131

Aka everytime we “run out” the market forces the discovery of new reserves.

Hydrocarbons are not dead dinosaurs that makes no sense it’s an entirely different compound.

Everytime we *ran* out. Our ancenstors, who survived to produce us, never ran out. This is called survivorship bias.

because of this ... laws of physics / Conservation of energy ...

(50) What Everyone Gets Wrong About Energy

i am american and i power my LED lightbulbs using split atoms

Risk management. I choose wood

Energy density is useful for mobility, portability... The main factor here is Energy Return on Investment (EROI), perhaps the most important energy factor no one os talkong about.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_return_on_investment

True. But after you store the nuclear waste for 1000 years what is the net result? I'm an ignorant but the 1000 years is what I understand is needed.

looks like ☢️ is outlasting the bulb

Respect time to renew energy you use.

Time to renew energy from:

Wood: 40 years

Coal: 250 mio. years

Oil: btw. 10000 and several mio. years

Nuclear: because it cannot be recycled completely: never

nostr:note1aee779rrqkf9denuwmallw73uucaqtych90huvwskgja54zz6hkqv9svfv "ain energia nuclear é perigoso" até o Bostil consegue ter uma em Angra.

How many tonnes of the stable isotope of uranium need to be thrown out to get that 1kg?

Worms Armageddon is the only true power source

I wonder how expensive to produce a kg of enriched uranium though.

Dr. @mzjacobson

lays out the issues w nuclear energy as a "solution" for the climate crisis, including how nuclear "never pays off the CO2 & pollution emissions it causes."

https://twitter.com/BrklynStoryLab/status/1664695281923903509?s=20

... and it is a almost total centralized system leading to all the issues and side effects like being vulnerable, not scaling, not efficient at all and big companies and states are in total control.

nuclear power plants main reason to exist is only because of military usage and dominance.

It is the everything opposite to the core design and ethical principles of Bitcoin and Nostr.

... I do not validate the framing that that we are in a "climate crisis" at all.

We have a serious environmental pollution issue on all levels this endangers our ecosystem.

We are in a deep crisis due to a Financial, Petrochemical-Pharmaceutical, Energy and Digital Platform monopoly structures. It is in control by a higly reckless and profitable Mafia. The core instruments are centralisation, oppression, racketeering and FUD to make it work.

The root cause of this all is a gigantic lack of education and culture. Most people are in a high state of self-inflicted immaturity and not only victims of their own deeds.

But we are on the way out of this distopia. This time we hopefully the merits of the cypherpunks and many more and the great human ability to evolve.

you do realize the reason for the 10-20 years of lead time is because of slow admin to approve projects ? Turns out that's the basis of his argument. As always, fiat begets fiat.
