Which relays does a note send to if you don’t broadcast?

By default, the note is sent to the relays that the person who posted the note is connected to.
If I see their note and click "broadcast", I'm then sharing it to the notes *I'm* connected to as well, so that people connected to those relays can also see it on their "global" feed.
That's how I'm understanding it at least.
Ok that makes sense, so broadcasting your own note won’t do anything, but broadcasting someone else’s note will.
What’s the difference between broadcasting and boosting? If I boost someone else’s note, shouldn’t that get broadcasted to all my relays as well?
