A classic. It's still a strikingly beautiful and thought provoking film, Kubrick had an amazing eye for composition. Still worth a watch 50+ years after its release.

Amazing analog special effects that still hold up. Hard to believe that movie was made in 1965-1968.

Kubrick was a very special filmmaker. He pushed the medium ahead by sheer will and artistry.
Fun fact: In Arthur C. Clarke’s original book the mission destination was Saturn, but because there weren’t enough good images of the planet at the time the film was made, so Stanley Kubrick had to change it to Jupiter.
That makes sense. The Voyager missions were still a decade away from taking the first good photos of the gas giants at the time.
