Think I'll write my next article on Bluesky, how it appears to have ripped ideas straight from Nostr, and why it'll always be a failed platform

Tbh I wish nostr did feeds as well as bluesky :)

Yeah, there are some good parts about Bluesky, but a lot of things I don't like about it

Do you also know about highlighter.com as another place for your articles/reviews? ;)

Think this could make a good series. Next up, farcaster and Urbit :)

I didn't, but now I have something to explore later when I'm back home. That's pretty cool that there's just this interface for blogging built into the network. Been paying to self host Wordpress since the beginning of the year, and it's been a little bit costly

There's a few. I've not really properly used them.

Articles / long notes appear within feeds:)

The other client I can think of that does this is: habla.news

I finally got how ATProto works on a basic conceptual level from this paper

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2402.03239

Having been none the wiser from reading the spec and other confused ppl on hacker news

That's my first gripe with Bluesky

Nostr and ActivityPub can both be understood in 5 minutes from reading their specs

ActivityPub is particularly well written

And it's not that ATProto is conceptually complex

But anyways, I appreciated the architecture of ATProto from a pure architecture point of view

But I think it's flawed in practical terms

Decentralization is small, many, cheap

ATProto is expensive

To develop applications for

And to run services on

And increasingly so the more decentralized it becomes

It's got a natural brake on decentralization

I'm going to sign up for Bluesky as I'm curious what the culture is like

Be interested to read your article!

Write it direct to nostr 🐸

There's this comparison article (written by a Bluesky user) very recently:

https://shreyanjain.net/2024/07/05/nostr-and-atproto.html

Just in case this is useful to you

Thank you 😁 I’ll add this as a source

it is a great article!

in particular I think a lot of the ideas in both nostr and atproto come from SSB and prior systems. atproto was also pretty informed by ActivityPub; I don't think there was much direct atproto/nostr cross-pollination, though there has been interest in the labeling system

I know nothing but I would suspect bluesky is probably mostly unaware of what goes on on nostr, nevermind copying. A lot of the opinions Ive seen about nostr from bluesky users tend to be along the lines of 'bit isn't it full of Nazis? Don't you have to pay bitcoin to use it? I've not actually used it tho'.

Having been here a little tiny bit I’m real confused about where the “nazi” assumption is coming from

I don't get it either. I occasionally look at Instagram, the comment section there is for the most part, far far worse and consistently worse than nostr.

(Not that I'm saying Instagram is a nazi platform lol).

AT and bluesky users: “bitcoiners + censorship resistance = Nazi”

nostr users: “bluesky = twitter2.0”

zero nuance from both sides 💀

Wait, were you on there when I was? Do you remember "blocked by pfrazee"

I've felt like I vaguely recognized you from somewhere and now I wonder if it was bluesky. Or maybe back when I first joined nostr and searched for posts about bluesky I saw you. But it makes me uneasy because everyone on bluesky hated me and if I remember you from there it could be from negative interactions where I can no longer see what happened due to my ban. I was a disciple of bitdizzy, does she ring a bell?

Me? I never posted on there. Maybe once. But my posts are bridged to there with the Bridgey fed thing

I don't know who that is. But maybe you're not asking me? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you for answering! It's either de ja vu (probably from your pfp being used elsewhere) or I simply saw you on nostr back when I was on bluesky. Thank gosh 🤙

It might seem odd that I was worried about it, but literally thousands of people blocked me on bluesky and my followers never got past low triple digits, so when you combine that with getting banned and not having all my posts archived (or perfect memory) it creates some paranoia about re-encountering people from there

Bluesky have perfected the art of blocklists and autoblocking via keywords. It truly is blocksky lol:)

Pretty pathetic of them

I actually blocked people constantly on there to mock them for it (not my usual style), which created a snowball effect. It was hilarious, but also depressing.

Okay, now I'm reading this and it's actually very interesting, and clearing up some initial misconceptions I had about the emergence of ATP and its possible relation to Nostr
