I'm *pretty* sure that's incorrect, GNOME has almost a decade on top of KDE, however KDE has made massive strides in UX (especially in the last year; give or take). Entirely anecdotal here, but I've definitely seen a rise in KDE users and not as much GNOME usage

Then again, I haven't used a DE since 2020 so I've missed a lot of market stats

Kde came out one year after Gnome. Gnome was like 1998 and KDE was 1999. I think I was running WindowMaker back then..lol

Ah, we had a slight disconnect. The KDE *organisation* was formed in 1996, but the Plasma desktop wasn't until 2008, while GNOME's initial release was in 1999.

After double checking, the GNOME Project launched in 1997 while KDE was 1996. Plasma released in '08 and GNOME DE was '99, so near enough a decade on KDE, despite KDE being founded first
