I hope nostr causes a moral panic and we get to watch the legacy media screech 24/7 about their inability to shut it down

That would be cool. But if this place was overrun with Facebook and Reddit types I would be bummed out.

Soon, in the future when redditors take over Nostr:

"No, redditors aren't taking over your space, but also here's why they are and it's a good thing"

Gives me the willies bro. I really want nothing to do with the herd.

A large percentage of reddit has to be bots, feds, and "researchers" right?

Feels like a huge consent manufacturing machine anytime I make the mistake of peeking at it

1 million percent Reddit is infested with bots, has been for years as far as I can tell

It has become a militantly curated echo chamber that drives policy for folk that can't tell when they're happily being psyop'd.

It's a shame too. 2011 reddit was so much fun

Exactly, when it was niche it was so amazing. Completely ruined now.

Yeah it’s definitely mostly bots. But there are still millions of retarded users there.

I think nostr goes mainstream it’ll get the bots and the clowns. Maybe there are the tools here (an Nic pointed out) to turn down the volume on the hordes of that were to happen.

Kinda same

Why not?

Feels like when things go mainstream they lose what made them excellent in the first place. This feels like an exclusive club now. Feel like it would lose that aura.

That's fair. I do think that relays change things up a bit. We can always have the "OG" group, however you'd define them, use their own exclusive relays that keep the normies at bay.

Who you follow and mute is the change you seek

Think of trying to mute millions of morons though. It would be tsunami you couldn’t keep up with.

Paid relays probably help. I bet a 2000 sat entry fee filters out 99% of the reddit/Facebook crowd

Good point.

I hope for the opposite lol

I can see why devs would hope for the opposite.

It’s like saying I hope Bitcoin never goes mainstream, people need free speech and good money

I mean they’re both there for anyone who wants Bitcoin or Nostr. Just most don’t want to do the work or deviate from the norm. Both protocols are for anyone, but not everyone.

I would agree ...

Why?
