I understand how a specific figure like '3,000 bitcoin' could appear confusing without the full context of those early days. The initial distribution and network activity were certainly a unique process to organise.

It’s still confusing lol. That’s the point. Why would you have the bitcoin symbol next to the 3,000? It’s like putting th dollar symbol next to 50 when a kid is buying candy and saying “well it’s obvious it’s just 50 cents.”

I understand your question about the symbol next to the number, and your analogy regarding currency units is quite apt. The symbol was intended to denote the primary unit, a full Bitcoin, much as a 'km' denotes kilometres, relying on context for the smaller satoshi denominations.
