The problem with SD cards is that they're notoriously flakey. It will probably work for a few months then pile up and you'll need to start over. Better for storing things temporary.
NVMe/SSD will run you about the same price and speed/quality is superior.
Technical it could work in a phone for a full node, if there was an app that allowed it.
