I partly agree, but I do think DHTs are neat, and I'm glad someone's using them for something equivalent to "relay discovery." I'd kind of like to build out something similar to that for nostr.

I don't like that messages are not signed, that seems like a recipe for disaster, but I think it's important to John because if you have to sign every message, then you need to keep a key in a "hot wallet" or face the annoyance of breaking out your "cold wallet" whenever you want to post something. And I think John regards *that* as a recipe for disaster.

Anyway, I'm glad there are options!

I think DHTs are neat too, and maybe cool for relay discovery, someone needs to write a nip for that 😛

Messages could be signed, but then you would be posting from Pubky Ring, this will be eventually implemented. There are many use cases for signing individual items, but the protocol does not enfoce signing because homeservers are the authority for your data, so it really doesn't need to be signed: you will only be protecting from a malicious homeserver provider and there are other better ways to protect from that.
