While I'm happy to see people celebrating their liberation after Maduro was removed from power I also recently watched people celebrating Charlie Kirk being murdered.

The two events are not comparable, but I continue to root my conclusions in first principles.

State violence is not something I will cheer for.

Yes, he was a brutal socialist dictator... Now being replaced by God knows what, but people who are suffering welcome change regardless of what it might bring.

The moment we begin to believe that state violence is acceptable, we are one half-truth away from supporting unspeakable acts.

I don't think anything would cause me to change my stance on that.

Naturally there's room for opportunism and pragmatism, but I'm not going to pretend that whatever the Whitehouse is doing is meant to benefit Venezuela or its people.

They aren’t mutually exclusive. Even if US has other incentives it is still a net positive for the people of Venezuela.

The people of Syria allegedly cheered when Assad was ousted not too long ago, until it became clear that foreign powers had placed a Bin-Ladenite head chopper in charge of large parts of the area.
