Imagine having 3.8 million square miles of land at your disposal, including 1 million square miles of lumber forest AND also having a housing crisis.

At some point responsibility falls on the population for i). Voting for and ii). Tolerating that kind of thing.

Have some self respect.

Human laziness and complacency on full display.

I would like to add, over 60% of Canada’s land area is further South than my home.

So really no excuse. They must like being gouged.

Australia has a population density of 3 per square kilometre (Canada has 4 per sq km) and we’ve got a very similar housing crisis happening now.

Rental vacancies at 1.1% and government now doing ‘tiny houses’ and making insane policies about future builds (my state wants to add 800k homes in 10 years off a base of 2.2M).

Our government is protecting the RE bubble because we haven’t had a recession for 40 years and millions will have their entire wealth evaporated if they lose the market. They’ve gone from printing money to printing visas to keep demand insanely high

What are people doing about it?

Nothing?

Of course they aren't. They don't want to be declared a racist and fired from their jobs.

The whole economy is a housing Ponzi scheme. Without constantly increasing housing prices, it falls apart. So you get lower amounts of new housing being created, plus 1M new immigrants per year. Economy saved 😂

Fuck, I gotta buy more bitcoin.

Yeah... It's pathetic.

For the record, I never voted for this crap. Not that Voting has been legit... ever.

This is a 10 IQ take. The vast majority of the countries urban centres and population live on or below the 49th parallel because most of what's north of that line is swamp. Also just because European cities are at higher latitudes doesn't mean the Canadian experience the same weather. Ever hear of oceanic currents?

I agree that we tend to favour politicians who make the problem worse. It's a really difficult and long process to get building permits and that's a huge problem. But just telling people to go build in the swamp, away from where their families and jobs are is dumb.

Can’t build above 49th because swamp? One million square miles is forest, that’s 4x the size of Texas.

England is 50,000 square miles and has 25% more people than Canada. 4% of the land in England is developed. That’s equates to 2,000 square miles. Canada is 3,850,000 square miles.

Douglas Lake Ranch alone is bigger than Greater London!
