The Aegis relay is a nice developmental addition to the Nostr relay ecosystem. We haven't had a new paid relay platform launch in almost two years. Aegis will fill a nice gap for those that want to run paid relays on their own server, with their own domain, but also are not experienced developers or overly familiar with the command line. Plus, with the addition of file hosting support, this could be a nice package for onboarding new users.

And speaking of being sovereign, for those of us that run our own Lightning nodes, it would be nice to have a future version with LND support, LNbits support, etc.

Technically primal premium relay launch is a paid relay.

It's not a platform like Nostream (and now Aegis) where I can run my own paid relay.

Got it!

RUN YOUR OWN PREMIUM RELAY SIR

What's the recommended server size?

Start small then scale up as you get more users

Guess I can start using it as a personal relay and then open up as I gain confidence in operating it.

I might be spinning one up for OxChat on a separate npub. My way of private TG.

Or is this not a good vision?

For a paid relay?

I dunno what you're trying to do, but you could run a Fren relay, with an npub that only follows your required group of people.

Though, this relay might be dead. No new updates in 4 months? nostr:npub1utx00neqgqln72j22kej3ux7803c2k986henvvha4thuwfkper4s7r50e8 plz update 😩

No updates means it works. Why update?

As a haven and wot-relay user, I've seen plenty of updates for these and would just assume that fren also would need fixes? You have had updates to khatru and eventstore that this uses.

Works mint, no updates needed πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»

🧐

Yes, but that doesn't mean the updates are necessary, they may be improvements, they may be introducing new bugs.

I’m probably spinning one on my start9 just for OxChat but we start to see the importance of different relays as different client use cases are introduced.

Decentralization for the win.

Oh I believe I understand now. You mean as your personal relay for your chats?

Yeah. Sorry I crossed some wires in my responses.

It would not really run over onion, would it?

Not with blossom

Not if clients don’t talk tor

I’m very temped to set up an Aegis server to help the Nostr ecosystem. What I don’t understand is why anyone would pay me to use my Aegis server? What’s in it for an average Nostr user? Asking from a learning perspective and to hopefully help others like me understand the β€œwhy”. How do an average user benefit from paying for use of a premium relay?

Policies. Maybe your relay keeps all notes and events for 5 years? Maybe forever as long as they're paying? Speed, uptime, geographic location?

Thanks. That makes more sense. So there should be specific policies my server offers that folks may want. Now me wonders what the top features users would want of a relay. A lot of responsibly in offering a paid service and guaranteeing services.

Great timing! I'm setting up a home server even as I type this!
