I had read that he distributed those bitcoin because he was using a faster miner and winning all the blacks and Satoshi asked him to stop

So at 50 BTC per block he would have to have mined 2000 blocks over the course of a span of just a few weeks to earn 100,000 BTC. Did I math right?

From a quick scan, looks like he wrote the first code to mine in GPUs. Satoshi thought it was too much for the early network, but eventually the car was out of the bag and the hash race was on.
