Even if Start9 did support clearnet, you wouldn't. You would use the cloudflare proxy service so you don't expose your home IP. Your only alternative would be to use a data center.
So, if you're going to proxy through cloudflare, you may be as well just use a vpn tunnel for the proxy and then you won't have to worry exposing anything personal.
And I can vouch for the cloudflare ddos protection. It works.

This is actually a hilarious meme since I've asked for years. TBH though, been running Tor only for almost a year and can't complain. Would I be getting more routes in clearnet? Maybe but it hasn't been too bad

You can use cloudflare to do that for free. Install cloudflare tunnel on Start9. Set up an encrypted tunnel on cloudflare and point relay.your.domain to the localhost:port that your relay software is listening on.
