Hmm I wonder if citrine will implement multicast, it would he cool to say share notes directly with someone on my local network or something.

This is cool! What protocol are multicast relays using? Some UDP based alternative to websockets to stream events or is it just using the multicast for discovery of other devices?
multicast udp. so only works for notes less than max udp frame size atm. fine for posts atm but will likely requires something more complex for larger payloads
