I’m expressing an opinion. The beauty of this platform is that we can do that without censorship and people can choose what client they use.

That said, I think you misunderstand me. I’ll write up later. Out now.

Mainstream doesn’t care about - without censorship.

They just want discoverability, algos, and reach.

Facts.

You are confident that you know what everyone wants?

not everyone, just look at what’s popular and listen to what they want

nostr not being about bitcoin will grow it quicker

Twitter wasn’t about Bitcoin, but it formed, and honestly Bitcoin Twitter is a hot mess right now, glad the community is here supporting devs with zaps.

But seeing Jack’s mom say good morning here is what people are after imo. Just a fun, positive place to visit online that’s not full of garbage.

If Twitter and Bluesky are ever going to be nostr clients someday, then there’s a lot of work still to be done that’s not at all about Bitcoin.

That is a fine reason to be on Nostr. But you’re missing about 99.99% of Nostr’s use cases by limiting it to that. For those uses and person-to-person interactions that do inevitably involve money, as so often happens in life, how do you achieve that more effectively than with bitcoin?

My buddy explicitly wants censorship. He has no interest in seeing the crazy stuff people say online. Actually negative interest - it stresses him out. This is why I think it’s important to eventually have client options that block according to individual preferences.

Users having the ability to individually block and mute is very different from attempting to ban certain words and topics for every new user by default.

💯

I think I convinced him he’s better off having total control over what he sees, the ability to audit it, edit it etc.

🤙🏾

It’s a very privileged opinion to suggest you should be free to express what you choose while preventing others from seeing certain topics upon arrival.

do you think there should be a Lightning wallet linked to your nostr client before your first post?

It’s a functional feature. If you want to receive payments then you need one. Otherwise you don’t.

How is it privileged? I’m not a developer and don’t make any clients. If someone decides they see logic in what I’m saying and implement it - that’s their initiative, I’m not responsible for their actions.

No, you are responsible for your words and the ideas for which you advocate. Being a dev or not has nothing to do with it. I call your mindset and opinion privileged because by making such suggestions, you blatantly ignore the very reasons Nostr and bitcoin exist. You either don’t have a real need for Nostr and bitcoin (which makes you privileged) or you don’t actually understand them.
