Idea:

The creation of a new written language (by AI probably) that could bridge translation between languages and solve the clunky translation issues. Eventually creating a universal language.

I might be a true idiot for this take but can a programmer confirm this idea is stupid? I’m too stupid to know how stupid this is

It’s more of a social problem than a programming problem, just like how changing Bitcoin is more of a social issue than it is a technical software issue

Would instant translations remove the social problem?

People wouldn’t need to actually learn the language, but the language could be designed to optimize translating from other languages to maximize connectivity.

Yes, that would be beneficial, but again that’s more of just an advanced google translate tool than it is a true universal language

You’re right.

My childhood dream of starting a new secret language hits yet another obstacle

Don’t let this reality be an obstacle - you can still start an amazing secret language and write in cool text and with cool communication conventions, your network effect will just likely be very small and unable to compete with adopted languages like English, Mandarin, etc 😂

Definitely an interesting idea, but the only outcome I could think of is a more effective Google translate like service

New written language can be created with rather ease, the hard part is getting people to adopt your version of it

There are already languages like Esperanto, trying to be universal. But the way languages developed is far too complex. Even if you could have an ideal "intermediary" language, it wouldn't be the same for any two pairs. For example, you could use Spanish to go between Portuguese and Italian, but that wouldn't be ideal between Punjabi and Hindi. Try to find and intermediary between Xhosa and hieroglyphs.
