The lower your time preference, the deeper level of civilization you care for.
If you're really high time preference, you'll only care about yourself.
Lower your time preference slightly, and you'll start caring about your family.
Lower it a bit more, your community.
Lower it further, your country/jurisdiction.
Lower it even more and you start caring about the world.
And this is real caring as in building stuff, not the fake kind which is just a bunch of cheap words.

Some truth to that, definitely better for civilization when ppl lower their time preference.
At least when the discounting of the future (i.e high time preference) is caused by easy money it doesn’t necessarily follow that one must become self-centered. Families in poor countries can and usually have high time preference but it’s to satisfy their family’s present needs.
Time preference alone is not sufficient to fix a lack of virtue. Ppl also need to find God, or adopt Jesus’s teachings for their moral framework even if they reject Him as atheists do.
Im excited to see a world where there is a return to true quality and craftsmanship.
